* What is the background that folk paintings began to actively drawn?

It was a time when criticism of the cultural toadyism had been politically carried out.
With the overall economic growth, commoners can lead a improved and stable life.
Commoners began to draw paintings to show their daily life and the desire of ascent of status. In the latter part of the Joseon dynasty, Dohwaseo painters also expressed the people's life in contact with the sun and the moon in everyday life, trees, flowers, animals, fish, etc.

Jakho-do : The paintings that used a tiger and a magpie sitting on a branch of pine
as subject materials. It has been also used to repel the evil and to expel misfortune.

Pungsok-do : the paintings that represents agriculture and hemping cloth.
It shows the daily life and the four seasons' multifarious scenery.




                                        "Munyeosinmu" Shin yunbok


Musok-do : The paintings that embody Taoist God and the Buddhist bodhisattva
 in shamanism.  Sherman and the fortune-teller used them as a talisman

  The folk paintings have been drawn freely and variously out of the format of the framework rather than are splendid and sophisticated. There are numerous folk paintings that have mainly magical purpose based on the folk beliefs. They are 
rustic and unconventional and also have exceptional spatial construction method.
By repetition and intense color contrast, they showed highlighted features effectively.
They are practical in that they were drawn painters using the material of everyday life. Drawn from various perspectives, the folk paintings are valuable Korean culture
that shows us well the traces of the late part of the Joseon dynasty.
